No matter where you shop, every licensed cannabis retailer in Washington follows the same basic rules.
Check your ID every visit
You must be 21 or older with a valid government issued ID.
Even if you're a regular. Even if you were here yesterday. Even if everyone knows your name.
A dispensary that takes ID verification seriously is protecting its license and protecting every customer who walks through the door.
Sell tested, regulated products
Every legal cannabis product in Washington comes from a licensed producer or processor and is tracked through the state's regulated system.
Products on the shelf are tested, labeled, and packaged according to Washington regulations, giving you a level of consistency and transparency that simply doesn't exist in the unregulated market.
Be upfront about payment
Like most cannabis dispensaries in Washington, we're cash only because federal banking laws still make traditional credit card processing difficult.
We have an ATM inside the store because we'd rather you know that before you reach the register than be surprised at checkout.
What actually separates a great dispensary
The regulations are the same everywhere.
The people are not.
The budtender test
Ask a real question.
Instead of asking, "What's your strongest flower?" try asking something like:
"I'm looking for something relaxing after work."
"I haven't smoked in years. Where would you start?"
"I've mostly used edibles. What flower would you recommend?"
A great budtender doesn't immediately point to the highest THC product.
They ask questions first.
They want to know your experience level, what you've liked before, and what you're hoping to get out of your visit. Then they narrow hundreds of products down to a few recommendations that actually make sense for you.
The menu test
A good cannabis menu isn't just big.
It's curated.
The best dispensaries don't carry every product that's available. They carry products they believe in.
Sometimes that means passing on brands that aren't meeting expectations. Sometimes it means recommending a product that's less expensive because it's simply better.
Ask a budtender what brands they don't carry anymore.
The answer usually tells you more than asking what their favorite brand is.
The regulars test
Spend a minute looking around before you order.
Are customers greeted by name?
Are people asking staff what they've been enjoying lately?
Does it feel like a neighborhood business or just another retail transaction?
The best dispensaries build relationships, not just receipts.
What to bring with you
Before heading to any Seattle dispensary, make sure you have a few basics.
Bring your valid government issued ID.
Bring cash, or plan to use the ATM if the shop has one.
And have a general idea of what you're looking for.
Something as simple as, "I'd like to stay around forty dollars and I'm looking for flower," gives your budtender a great place to start.
Questions worth asking

"What's new this week?"
Cannabis is seasonal, and new harvests arrive all the time.
"What's the difference between these two?"
Products that look similar can have completely different genetics, terpene profiles, cultivation methods, and overall character.
"What have customers been coming back for lately?"
Budtenders see patterns. We notice which products people return to buy again, and that's valuable information.
"Do you have a loyalty program?"
Most dispensaries do, and it's worth signing up if you find a shop you enjoy visiting regularly.
Deals are great. Relationships are better.
Almost every Seattle dispensary runs promotions.
Vendor days.
Daily deals.
Holiday specials.
Online discounts.
Those are all worth taking advantage of.
But constantly chasing the cheapest eighth in the city usually means starting over every time you walk into a different shop.
