The short answer: yes
Cannabis is legal for adults 21+ with valid ID in Seattle and across Washington State. Washington was one of the first two states in the country to legalize recreational cannabis, back when voters passed Initiative 502 in 2012. Retail shops opened in 2014, and we've been part of the South Seattle neighborhood ever since.
So if you're new in town, visiting, or just never looked into it, you're good. You can walk into a licensed shop, browse flower, pre-rolls, edibles, and more, and buy it legally. The rest of this is the stuff worth knowing before you stop in.
Who can buy, and what you need
You have to be 21+ with valid ID. No exceptions, and no medical card required for recreational purchases. We card everyone, every time. That's not us being difficult, that's the law and we follow it cleanly.
Bring a government-issued photo ID: driver's license, state ID, passport, or military ID. One thing worth knowing: vertical IDs (the kind issued to people under 21 at time of printing) get extra scrutiny, so bring something current and valid.
One more practical note. We're cash only · ATM on site. Washington cannabis runs cash-heavy because of how federal banking rules treat the industry, so plan for that. Most shops including ours have an ATM if you forget.
How much you can buy
Washington sets purchase limits per transaction for adults 21+. The standard limits:
- 1 ounce of flower
- 16 ounces of edibles in solid form
- 72 ounces of cannabis-infused liquid
- 7 grams of concentrate
That's a generous amount for most people. If you're newer to all this, you won't be buying anywhere near the cap, and a good budtender will steer you toward a sensible starting point rather than the limit.
Where you can legally use it
Here's where a lot of folks get tripped up. Buying is legal. Public consumption is not. You can't smoke, vape, or eat cannabis in parks, on sidewalks, in bars, in your car, or anywhere out in public. Doing so can get you a ticket.
Legal consumption happens on private property: your own home, or someone else's place with the owner's permission. Renters, check your lease and your landlord's rules, because property owners can prohibit it. Hotels and short-term rentals usually ban smoking of any kind, so read the fine print before you light a pre-roll.
And to be clear, you can't consume on shop property either. Buy it, take it home, enjoy it there.
Driving
Don't. Washington has a per-se THC limit for drivers, and a cannabis DUI carries the same weight as one for alcohol. The legal move is simple: consume at home, leave the car parked. If you've used, get a ride.
Buying online for pickup
You don't have to figure everything out at the counter. You can browse and place an online order ahead of time, then do pickup in the shop. When your order's ready you swing by, hand the budtender your email, show your ID, pay cash, and you're out the door. No curbside. You come inside, we card you, that's the process.
For first-timers, the in-person browse is honestly the better experience. A budtender who knows the menu can talk you through the differences between products, formats, and dosing way faster than reading labels alone.
A quick word on edibles and dosing
If edibles are new to you, go slow. We usually start first-timers on a low-dose gummy and tell them to wait. Edibles take a while to come on, and the urge to take more before the first one kicks in is how people have a rough night. Read the package, respect the timing, and you'll be fine. Everything sold in a licensed Washington shop is lab-tested and labeled with its THC content, so you always know what you're getting.
We're not going to make any claims about what cannabis does or doesn't do for you. That's not our lane, and the state rightly keeps shops out of that territory. What we can do is help you find a format and a starting point that makes sense for you.
Why buy from a licensed shop
Legal shops are licensed and regulated by the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board. Everything on the shelf is tracked, tested, and labeled. You know the THC content, you know it came through a compliant supply chain, and you know the people behind the counter actually know the menu.
That last part matters more than people expect. The difference between a confusing first visit and a great one is usually just having someone who'll give you a straight, knowledgeable answer instead of upselling you. That's the kind of shop we try to be.
The bottom line
Marijuana is legal in Seattle for adults 21+ with valid ID. You can buy it at licensed shops, online order for pickup, and consume it on private property. Keep it out of public spaces, never drive after using, and bring cash plus your ID.
If you're in South Seattle and want a hand getting started, stop in. We're locally owned, we know our menu, and we're happy to walk you through it. No pressure, no jargon, just a real answer at the counter.
*Cannabis products are for adults 21+ only. Keep out of reach of children.*
